Event Description:
This presentation will cover a basic plant overview of how power is generated at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant as well as covering some safety systems and postulated accident responses. There will be a specific focus on the electrical aspects of the plant including the main generator, the emergency diesel generators, and the emergency battery systems. We will cover briefly the nuclear-specific IEEE standards that are part of the plant’s design and license bases. Lastly, there will be a demonstration in the plant’s Control Room simulator, which is a 1:1 duplicate of the actual Control Room that is used for training operators.
Presenter Biography:
Ryan M Briggs has been an electrical / instrumentation & controls design engineer at the Perry Nuclear Power Plant since 2007. He holds a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toledo and is a registered Professional Engineer in the State of Ohio. In his role at the plant he has been involved in designing upgrades, replacements, and repairs to the various plant systems in addition to maintaining the electrical analysis used to demonstrate safety system performance under postulated worst-case conditions to support safe and reliable operation.
