7:00 Presentation by Russell Harrison, Director of Government Relations for the IEEE-USA

Russell Harrison is the Director of Government Relations for the IEEE-USA, the American component of the world’s largest technical professional society.  Russ’ team of government relations experts represents technology professionals before Congress, the Executive Branch and the media, serving as the eyes, ears and mouth for technology professionals in the U.S.  He personally manages IEEE-USA’s efforts to enact high-skill immigration and STEM education reform.

Russ has been with IEEE-USA for fifteen years.  Prior to that, he worked for the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, the American Iron and Steel Industry and the American Trucking Association.  Overall Russ has nearly 25 years of experience working in Washington, D.C.

Over his 15 year career with IEEE-USA, Russ has spoken to over 250 local, state, national and international groups about engineers’ role in the public policy process, making him one of the most sought after speakers within IEEE.  His talks focus on specific policy areas ranging from space to K-12 education, intellectual property to cybersecurity.  And they always cover ways for individual engineers to be part of the policy development process.

Russ has a B.A. in political science, with minors in history and communications from Allegheny College and a Master’s in Public Management from the University of Maryland.  He is a Certified Association Executive (ASAE) and Planning Commissioner (Virginia Tech).

IEEE-USA has been the leading voice for engineers in the United States for the past thirty years.

Its staff in Washington, D.C., along with dedicated IEEE volunteers, represent technology professionals before Congress, the Supreme Court and the White House.  They fight to protect our interests and to ensure the technical feasibility of government programs.

Join IEEE-USA’s Director of Government Relations for a discussion on our role in the public policy process.  Led by our top representative in Washington, Russell Harrison, you will learn what Congress is doing for (and to) us, and what we can do about it.

Russell is one of IEEE’s most popular speakers, having addressed at over 200 local section meetings across the United States.  He works directly with Congress, the White House and the media, and can provide us with unique insights into Washington policy.
