Radiation exposure is the new tobacco. Every year, more than 3.6 billion diagnostic radiology examinations are performed worldwide. Epidemiological studies in individuals exposed to medical CT scans suggested that cancer risk may increase even at doses comprising up to five CT scans. Did you know that one third of children who have undergone CT scans have had at least three scans? Overutilization also exposes patients to unnecessary radiation doses and increases the average dose to the population resulting from medical and dental exposures.
In addition, research has suggested that as many as 20%–50% of high-tech imaging procedures fail to provide information that improves patient welfare. Failure to identify fractures may account for 41%-80% of diagnostic errors in the Emergency Department. These types of claims account for about 40%-54% of radiology-related medical malpractice cases. While 2D and 3D radiographs are an indispensable diagnostic tool, effective doses of cumulative medical and dental imaging examinations are still high enough to warrant reconsideration of means to reduce patients’ exposure and image resolution is not high enough to provide diagnostic confidence.
Real Time Imaging Technologies, LLC is developing a proprietary NeoImaging x-ray flat panel detector hardware that significantly reduces radiation dosage and increases image resolution to ultra-high definition format as compared to existing technology. These breakthroughs will improve patient safety by reducing overexposure to radiation as one of the biggest public health issues of the 21st century while increasing diagnostic confidence by minimizing overutilization, retakes and failure to diagnose.

Daniel Uzbelger Feldman:
DDS, DMDCSO & Co-Founder
Real Time Imaging Technologies, LLC

Daniel has 23 years of experience in dentistry; as a clinician, entrepreneur and in Academia in two different countries. He is the inventor of the first-ever microlens / back-illuminated CMOS-based low-dose digital video imaging device for dentistry / low-dose ultra high definition flat panel detector / large format adaptive optics wave-front sensor and is the author of a seminal work on the comparison of existing dental imaging technologies to medical fluoroscopes.  Dr. Uzbelger has put together device development, testing and FDA clearance proposals as well as strategic partnership opportunities and the RTI Tech management team. In 2014, he was granted with the Medical Device & Diagnostic Industry Dare-to-Dream Medtech Design Challenge Reader’s Choice Award. In 2013, he was the recipient of the William H. Rollins Award granted by the American Academy of Oral & Maxillofacial Radiology. In addition, his team has won 3 consecutive awards at Temple University business plan competition series including the first prize in science and technology in the business plan competition.
