2024 Summary

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Happy Holidays from the Cleveland IEEE officers.

2024 has been another busy year where 28 events were offered to our local members. A wide variety of events were offered, but lately our section has been leaning towards social/networking events. There is a table below that lists the different events.

The listing does not include our monthly Executive Committee meetings. The officers and other volunteers gather together at these ExComm meetings to plan events that are meaningful to our local members. These ExComm meetings, which are generally on the first Thursday of the month, are open to all local members  with both in-person and remote attendance options.

Information about upcoming meetings and events can be found at ieeecleveland.org. And pictures of past events can be found there as well.

I want to thank all the officers and other volunteers of the Cleveland IEEE for their work in 2024. Being a volunteer for the IEEE is a time commitment but they have found a way to manage their IEEE duties along with work, family, and play (not necessarily in that order.) They have participated in various trainings, remote section meetings, and have travelled outside Cleveland to attend workshops related to their volunteer activities.

We also have three new volunteers this year that are part of our executive committee:

Gavin White is adding pictures and comments from our events into our Facebook and LinkedIn feeds. He also organized some equipment that can be used by primary school teachers to demonstrate electrical concepts to students.

Colin Russell will be organizing activities that are of interest to the younger members of our section.

Akshat Shah will be our student representative on ExComm. He is also the chair person for the CSU IEEE student branch and the Student Representative for the Cleveland State Board of Trustees.

I finally want to thank those members who stepped forward to help with individual events:

Ed Baznik helped us to secure a room for a dinner/presentation at the Independence Civic Center.

Four members volunteered as judges for the Northeast Ohio Science and Engineering Fair:   Mark Hoersten, Kenneth Lauer, Wanyun Zhong, and Dennis Althar.

Summary of the 2024’s activities

The event names in red are those events that were co-hosted with (and primarily organized by) other IEEE sections and offered locally by streaming. The event names in green are those events that were associated primarily with our student chapters at Cleveland State and Case Western Reserve.
