CLE IEEE end of summer 2025, start of fall newsletter

Good day everyone, right now it is a pleasant fall day (even if it is still August)

I have three topics to share in this newsletter: officer elections, STEM activities and upcoming events.

Officer Elections:

The Cleveland section is electing four officers this year for the 2026/2027 calendar years. The Cleveland section has a very active executive committee but can always use new ideas and more help.. Nominations for office will close on September 1. Contact me (Steven Galecki) if you have any questions, need assistance or wish to volunteer.

The different technical societies in Cleveland are also looking for officers. Again, contact me if you have any questions or are interested in acting as an officer.

STEM Activities

School has started and the students are getting involved in various projects.  Sometimes these projects require adult help as mentors, chaperones, judges or even providing refreshments. The Cleveland IEEE has  polo shirts available to adults involved in STEM projects. These shirts promote the IEEE to students, letting them know that we exist (and also that the volunteer is also a member of the IEEE.) Please contact me (reply to this email) if you would like a shirt and we will get one to you ASAP.

We hope you enjoyed our inaugural STEM newsletter this past June. Another newsletter will be coming out at the end of September. Please send us information ([email protected]) about STEM events that you are aware of or involved in so the newsletter can promote them.

Upcoming events this fall: (check out IEEECleveland.org)

On Sept 9 there will be a presentation at the TopGolf meeting rooms: Data Center 101: Foundations for the Digital Future – IEEE Cleveland

On Sept 10 there will be an executive committee, all are welcome to attend: Cleveland IEEE September ExComm

On Sept 15 there will be a presentation on Post-Quantum Computing Encryption

On October 23 there will be a presentation on Amateur Radio: The National Parks of the Electromagnetic Spectrum

On October 17 there will be a presentation on “Building a Successful Career as a Control Engineer in Industry”, details will be announced later.

On October 14 there will be a presentation on “Pneumatic Actuator Control and the Path to an Academic Career”, details will be announced later.

We will also have a holiday party in December open to members plus 1. We had a good meeting last years holiday party at Stancato’s in spite of the winter weather (this is Cleveland after all) that required four wheel drive vehicles to get there.
